The Trouble with Chance
Category: Garden Whimsy
This whimsical garden series will fully take effect next spring when my wildflowers are in full bloom. I thought I’d start with my latest fanciful setting. Confession: I love, for some odd reason, quirky concrete statues. I have two-plus acres of wooded area to play with, and somehow unconsciously (or deliberately), I’ve set up various garden spots with a theme and a concrete wonder.
The unhappy gentleman on top of the tree limb is Tude, short for attitude. He’s got that look, and I instantly fell in love with him, envisioning him perched on a tree (thinking of eating birds, like “Hogsqueal” in the Spiderwick Chronicles movie). The grim fellow below is named “Bartimaeus” after the character in the Bartimaeus books by one of my favorite authors, Jonathan Stroud (a must-read).
Bottom line: These delightful figures make me smile!
